Ways to help

Volunteering Your Own Animal or Becoming an Animal Caretaker

If you have an animal with therapeutic/educational potential or if you would permanently adopt such an animal we could borrow for daytime programs. In particular we are looking for rabbits, birds, hamsters, and guinea pigs. Once a week your animal becomes part of our team in delivering important therapeutic programs to youth at risk, people with disabilities, and elders. It’s important, fulfilling work—for us, for the participants, and for the animals themselves.

How you help Thanks to our volunteers The Nature Connection has provided over 15,000 contacts with at-risk youth, elders and people with disabilities in the Greater Boston area since our founding.
About us The Nature Connection brings nature programs to people with limited access to the natural world. Founded in 1983, we connect individuals in-need with nature’s capacity to heal and to teach. The Nature Connection serves at-risk youth, people with disabilities and elders. We use a unique methodology that brings together seasonal natural materials, live animals, storytelling, music and other expressive arts. Visiting each of our client sites on a bi-weekly or monthly basis, our trained staff and experienced volunteers bring educational and therapeutic nature programs to hospitals, residential schools, at-risk youth programs, special needs facilities, nursing homes, and Alzheimer’s care programs.
