Our mission

The FPL provides an open, unbiased environment and upholds the public’s right of equal access to information and services. We encourage and contribute to the civic, intellectual, and cultural pursuits of the community. Through guidance, resources, and programs, we meet the diverse needs of individuals and groups using traditional and innovative technologies. The Library provides a friendly, physical environment that serves as a community meeting place, encouraging curiosity, free inquiry, and lifelong learning. As a vital community asset, we recognize our responsibility to actively and broadly promote awareness of the Library’s resources and services.
Opportunities

Tutor at the Homework Center

Adult Volunteer tutors provide free tutoring for Framingham students K-12. Tutoring takes place at the Homework Center Program which is located at the Main Library. The Homework Center’s Library’s Outreach Initiative also sends teams of tutors to each of the middle and high schools.

Serve on the Student Advisory Board

A hands on opportunity for an active role in running a library program that also serves the academic community of Framingham. Meet on a monthly basis with students representing each of the middle and high schools. Plan and run fun town-wide academic events (spelling and geography bees, fundraising fashion shows, essay contests, etc.) Being a member of the advisory board is a leadership/community service experience, important to note on college and employment applications. Students can also serve as tutors with younger students and peers in the Homework Center Tutoring Program.

Coordinate Literacy Unlimited's monthly bakesale

Held in conjunction with the Friends booksale. Literacy is also looking for volunteers to serve on the Advisory Board, to help in the office, and to help with new student registration.

Little Free Pantry Donations

The Framingham Public Library’s “Little Free Pantry,” started by Aatu McCarthy, is always looking for donations! Learn more about the pantry at https://whatcanyougivepantry.carrd.co/ 

Donations can be made through the amazon wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1UX7HGAV625BB?ref_=wl_share

Or they can be brought in and placed directly into the pantry, which is a white cupboard located in the main stairwell. We request that no glass containers be donated.

The items we most frequently need are snacks, ready-to-go non-refrigerated food (e.g. microwavable mac and cheese or ramen, “snack packs,” toaster pastries, mini cereal boxes, tuna/chicken packets), boxed shelf-stable milk, and toiletries.

About us

The Framingham Public Library on 49 Lexington Street opened its doors in December 1979. The Christa McAuliffe Branch, formerly known as the Saxonville Branch, opened at 10 Nicholas Road in March 1963. It was renamed in 1987 for teacher and astronaut Christa Corrigan McAuliffe. In early 2016 the Branch moved to its brand new building on 746 Water Street.
